Holiday Study Packets & Progress Reports
Hello Everyone! I hope all is well for everyone.
Today the girls will come home with their progress reports cards attached to a work packet. Please review the progress report cards, sign them and have the girls return them on Monday, November 28th. The work packets consist of reading and math review. In addition to the packets the girls can utilize this time to work on First in Math, Study Island, Fun Brain, or any other educational program.
I am very fortunate to have such wonderful parents and parental support. Thank you to all the parents that sent in items for our feast and those that gave of their time to help make this a great celebration.
Upon our return from Thanksgiving break we will have only three weeks until the end of the quarter. It will be very important for the girls to stay on track and not lose focus. We are all excited about the upcoming holiday break; it is very easy to lose focus (even for me) and only concentrate on fun times but we must remember that learning must continue everyday.
Please have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Updates for the Week of October 24th
Due Before Friday
Parent volunteers needed to read to students
Parent in need
Our next "fun" class read will be "My Teacher is an Alien!"
Cost $1.00 - Money is due by Friday, October 28, 2011
Friday wraps up National Book month and to celebrate students are able to dress up as their favorite book character. In order for your child to participate in this event parents will need to sign a permission slip indicating that their child will come as a story character. Permission slip attached in email
Reading is the key... We would like to have parent volunteers to come to our class to read with the students. The parent volunteer would supervisor a group of students while they read orally; they would also lead a discussion with their group detailing the events from the story. Parent volunteers would help out during our independent reading time which usually begins at 12:45 and ends at 1:15. We will need volunteers on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Volunteers can sign-up via Whiteboard.
3 Parent volunteers needed for Junior Achievement - 1 parent/lesson
Volunteers for Junior Achievement! We will need volunteers to come in and lead the class on a lesson related to business, economics, and becoming an entrepreneur. The lesson plans will be provided for you. I will conduct a group training session once it has been determined who is interested in participating. There are five lessons and two slots have already been secured by parent volunteers. To volunteer please contact Robin Cash at robinlcash@gmail.com
Updates prior to fall break
On October 14th we wrapped up the first quarter of school, and we ended the day with a fourth grade tug-of-war competition. We decided to have the competition because of our current science unit on force and motion. Please ask your daughter(s) to explain inertia, force, motion, velocity, and speed; they sure used a lot when they beat the boys during our competition. Next time we will invite parents to joy in the fun.
Missing homework assignments
Since we are now well into the school year and the girls understand my rules, procedures, and expectations, I believe that they can handle turning in all assignments on time. Homework assignments are due the next day unless it is spelling. Spelling homework is due on Fridays. If your child has an excused absence they will be given one day for each day missed to complete the assignments and turn in the work. Missing assignments will be marked as an M in Engrade to indicate that I did not receive the assignment(s). Thank you in advance parents for your help with this matter.
The girls continue to amaze me and I am so proud of each of them. They continue to strive for excellence while exhibiting the core IB profiles and attitudes. Also, please check out the new educational websites I have added to the blog to help students practice their skills.
Parent in need
A parent new to our school, Kas, is need of transportation for her daughter, AlmaRose. She is having car trouble, and will need assistance up until Nov 7. She asked if anyone would be willing to pick up her daughter in the morning on their way to school.
She lives relatively close to the school, at the corner of Maynard Terrace and Memorial to be exact. Even if you know of anyone else who would be willing to help, please feel free to forward them this email.
The best way to contact her is by phone, 404-275-3316 for arrangements.

Weekly Update -Sept 25th
Just a little Information
The girls did a great job with their projects and I am very proud of them. We would like to have parents stop by for a “museum walk” on Monday morning from 8:00 to 8:30 am to view the projects.
We all had a wonderful time on the Atlanta history Museum field trip. The girls learned a great deal about the Native Americans that reside in Georgia. They were given the opportunity to create Indian tribal mask, take a tour of outside to see the plants used by the Native Americans, see a film, and eat lunch on the lawn. A special thank you to Ms. Jong and Ms. Clark for chaperoning the field trip, they were a great help.
Our next field trip will take place October 10, 2011. It will be an in-school field trip sponsored by High-Touch High-Tech. This field trip will support the Georgia Science Standards that covers motion.
Picture Day is Monday! The girls must wear their uniforms for the pictures.
Thank you parents for attending the parent/teacher conferences and for your continued support of the girls and myself. As each passes we become a stronger support system for our girls.
